What is a marketer?

According to the French Environment Code, a "metteur sur le marché" is a company that manufactures or imports batteries, portable accumulators or appliances containing them into France, in order to market them.

They are subject to the principle of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), which obliges them to manage the end-of-life of these products.

  • Manufacturers

Putting products (under their brand(s), without or with their customers' brand(s)) directly on the French market.
  • Importers

Import of batteries manufactured abroad (in and outside the EU), resold on the French market and incorporated or not in electrical or electronic equipment.
  • Distributors

Making batteries available on the market as part of the supply chain (excluding manufacturers and importers).
  • Second-hand goods operators

Use of batteries by second-life operators in preparation for reuse or remanufacturing *new featureintroduced by the New European Regulation, effective August 18, 2025.

Extended Producer Responsibility, what do you need to know?

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is based on the " polluter pays " principle.

It obliges companies to manage the entire life cycle of their products, from design to recycling.

They must therefore finance and organize the collection, treatment and recycling of their used equipment, in compliance with French and European regulations.
