Eco-conception : solutions for a sustainable future
Over 1.5 billion batteries are placed on the French market every year. Encouraging second life is becoming a crucial step in rethinking our production and consumption patterns.
In the battery sector, eco-design offers concrete solutions for reducing environmental impact, extending product life and preserving natural resources. How is Batribox working with its partners to innovate and sustainably transform the industry?
What is eco-design?
Eco-design integrates environmental issues right from the product design phase. In the battery sector, this approach aims to reduce ecological impact throughout the product's life cycle. New standards, dictated byarticle 72 of the AGEC law, require that assembly techniques for devices with batteries do not prevent or complicate their extraction.
At the same time, manufacturers must produce batteries using less-polluting materials, sometimes recycled, that can be reused.
By helping our members to rethink battery design, we contribute to preserving the environment and meeting consumer expectations for more responsible solutions.
4 pillars of eco-innovation
Eco-innovation is based on 4 key areas aimed at reducing the environmental impact of products.
-
Minimizing resource use
Using renewable and/or recycled materials. -
Optimizing production
By reducing waste and energy consumption during manufacturing. -
Improving sustainability
By designing products that are more robust, repairable and easily dismantled. -
Facilitating recycling
By simplifying component separation and the use of recyclable materials.
Batribox's commitment: innovating for a sustainable future
As a pioneer in the field, Batribox explores innovative solutions to extend the life of batteries. Through strategic partnerships with start-ups and renowned research institutes, we are working on battery reuse and reconditioning projects.
These collaborations enable us to test innovative technological models and build an ecosystem that supports the transition to sustainable practices.
On average, 1% of the contributions collected by Batribox are dedicated to research and development projects to prepare the technologies of tomorrow.

Structuring producers' eco-design initiatives
Article 72 of the AGEC law requires all producers to draw up and implement a prevention and eco-design plan (PPE).
To help its members adopt sustainable practices, Batribox has set up a support program, providing them with a PPE adapted to their sector of activity.
By 2023, this initiative had resulted in the receipt of 3,800 EPPs. As a result, 63% of eco-contributions paid by our members were covered by an EPP.
A result that testifies to the collective will to act in favor of reparability and waste prevention.
A vision for an optimized life cycle
The circular economy is based on the responsible management of resources, by promoting practices that extend the life of products.
At Batribox, we advocate a global approach, integrating four essential pillars: reduce, reuse, repair and recycle.
-
Reduce
Reduce the use of raw materials to limit our environmental footprint. -
Reuse
Give a second life to components that are still functional, thanks to innovative reconditioning solutions. -
Repair
Develop repairable products to extend their lifespan and reduce waste. -
Recycle
Ensuring optimal treatment of end-of-life products to transform materials into new, reusable resources.
